Week of April 27, 2026

Preschool has been working on taking turns, teamwork, letter sounds, and learning all about Bugs!

This week in Kindergarten was bittersweet as we had to say goodbye to our amazing student teacher, Ms. Graham.  The kiddos made her a beautiful gift and showered her with lots of love. We wish her the best as she begins her career.

Such a busy week in first grade. Here are some fun pictures from game day and a visit from Lauren at Brown County Soil and Water. Also, two students leveled up on their math facts.

Mrs. Platt’s first graders had so much fun during a “Read the Room” math activity! Students walked around the classroom reading different sets of tally marks posted on the walls. As they moved from spot to spot, they carefully counted the tally marks and recorded the data on their own recording sheets.

This activity helped students practice counting by fives, interpreting tally marks, and collecting data in an engaging, active way. It was wonderful to see them working independently, checking their counting, and helping one another when needed.

By the end of the activity, students had gathered and recorded information from around the room, strengthening both their math and observation skills. We are so proud of their hard work and enthusiasm for learning!

Second graders are eating donuts and drawing on “D” day of our A to Z countdown!

Here are a couple of pictures highlighting our ABC Countdown to Summer for Donut Day and Fancy Day! Our class wanted to draw donuts while eating donuts. They are loving these special activities sprinkled throughout our week while we continue our ILEARN testing.

During our A to Z Countdown, our third-grade class got a lesson on how to do a drum roll for D Day from one of our classmates

Van Buren Elementary fourth-grade students are relaxing after a day of ILEARN testing. They will continue to test on 5/1 and 5/4.

5th graders are having fun learning about the branches of government in social studies.  The perfect time of year to discuss voting and our government system!

This week, students from every grade, Kindergarten through 5th, took part in our STEM Slime night. These students stayed after school to make some creative slime with Mr. Brown, and several other of our wonderful teachers and staff members. We also raised funds to help two of our 5th graders go to the invention convention. The night ended with Mr. Brown being slimed by the two classes with the highest participation rates.

This past week, 4th graders, along with other classes, went out to the Van Buren garden to help work on finishing the garden so that all the classes could start planting in it before the end of the school year

STEM Student of the Week: Vicy Vasquez
