Week of March 24, 2025

PreK

This week in Preschool we discussed the Water cycle, learned what plants need to grow, and what kind of weather the Spring season brings.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students in Ms. LaGiglia’s class used their engineering and problem solving skills to build bridges and safely get 3 animals from one table island to the other. All 4 groups successfully got their animals safely across and the winning bridge held a total of 25 animals!

First Grade

In first grade this week, we:

1)  Learned about adding doubles and near doubles in math

2)  Learned about folk tales in reading

3)  Learned about transition words in writing

4)  Learned about how plant parts help a plant to live

5)  Learned about suffixes to form plurals

Second Grade

Every morning second grade starts off with STEM bins. This helps our brain start the day with thinking creatively. They create sonic emitters, airplane boats, and much more all by 8:30 am!

Third Grade

Third graders love practicing their Vocab words on Kahoot!

Fourth Grade

We love good books in 4th grade. Whether it’s reading on Epic, where our class has read a total of 5761 books so far this year, or with an actual book in our hands, or a read aloud with sound effects from the Novel Effect app, we just love to read. Our current read aloud is called The War that Saved my Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. Be sure to ask a 4th grader about this fabulous book.

When a teacher gets a handmade gift from a student, she has to put them on right away. Note the awesome earrings made by Millie.

Fifth Grade

Fifth graders are having fun working in their cooperative learning groups reviewing geometry skills for their upcoming ILearn test next month.

STEM

This week our kindergarten biologist learned about birds. Specifically they learned why it is that birds lay their eggs in spring rather than other seasons. Students learned about nests and how they help birds. They learned about needs that nests supply as well. The kindergarteners built their own bird nests with soft materials inside for birds to lay in. Then they drew birds that they could put into the nests they built.

This week our 3rd graders were able to delve into more coding. They were able to experience programming Spherobots for the first time. Students were able to see what draw programming looks like and were able to try it themselves. Then students moved on to block programming and learning how to change the physical features and appearances of the bots.

STEM Student of The Week: Jacqueline Ernstes

Jacqueline can always be found in doing the right thing. She enjoys STEM and always reaches out to find answers. In addition, she is willing to ask for help when needed. This week, Jacq was noticed working extra hard and following directions. She was going above and beyond to learn all things STEM this week.

Congratulations Jacqueline for being the STEM student of the week.
