Week of April 7, 2025
PreK
This week in Preschool we are continuing our study of Insects, and talking about recycling! We learned about the Life Cycle of a butterfly, and the sounds and travel that bugs make. Students also talked about building structures made with different types of materials.

Kindergarten
We are becoming stronger writers in kindergarten!!

The Kindergarten students in Ms. LaGiglia’s class celebrated reaching their classroom goal of reading 2500 books by decorating cupcakes and spending the day with their special stuffed animals.

First Grade
In first grade this week we:
1). Learned about verbs and how to add the suffix -ing correctly in language.
2). Learned about descriptive words in writing.
3). Compared texts with similar genres in reading.
4). Made and confirmed predictions within those texts.
5). Learned that we can choose different strategies to add in any order and get the same sum.
6). Listened to our classmates read the books they wrote and illustrated.

Second Grade
Second grade is working on double-digit subtraction. One strategy they can use is manipulatives like base-ten blocks. This really helps our visual learners!Â

Third Grade
Third graders had their ice cream sundae party to celebrate all of the multiplication facts they have memorized.Â

Fourth Grade
Fourth graders are improving their vocabularies every day as they practice new words from their reading text and special spring synonyms activities. And, as always, they keep passing XtraMath levels as they conquer their math facts.

Fifth Grade
This week in ELA eager Wildcats studied the mentor text, “Going Down Home with Daddy” to help us add details to our personal narratives. Phrases like, “we sat up as straight as the pines” and “biscuits that oozed with jelly” help build excitement in the lines throughout our stories.Â

STEM
This week our 5th grade astronomers learned more about different parts of our solar system and space. Students learned about constellations and created a universe in a box that helped them see seasonal changes in the stars. Students also learned about the moon phases by doing an activity using a moon ball and a flashlight (as the sun). Students were able to see first hand how the phases are created.
Our 4th grade engineers and biologists have been learning about energy and how it works in our bodies. They also have been learning how robots and humans can have things in common. For example, often things such as strings or cables are used in robots. Students wondered if humans also have string-like structures in their bodies. Using chicken claws, which work similar to human hands, students were able to discover tendons and how they work with muscles to create movement in the human body. The students enjoyed seeing how tendons worked in the chicken claws so much that they didn’t want to quit.
STEM Student of the Week: Carlee Morgan
Carlee had lots of questions this week. You can always find Carlee trying to find answers to questions and taking part in STEM class discussions. She does a great job of working on new ideas and presenting them to her partners or to the rest of the class. You will also find Carlie following classroom expectations and raising her hand when she has an idea to share or a question. She is great with inquiry and discovering ideas and things around her. Carlee is a model STEM student who loves learning.

Wildcats on the Run
The Wilcats On The Run kids practiced their form this week using the team’s favorite tool Peeps! The runners are challenged to keep soft but strong hands while they run a full lap around the school grounds. Runners who keep their peeps safe and unsquashed are rewarded with the sweet treat of eating them!
