This week in 2nd grade was packed with exciting learning! In math, we tackled 2-digit addition, both with and without regrouping, sharpening our problem-solving skills. In reading, we explored fascinating facts about bears, diving into nonfiction text features and comprehension. During writing, we let our imaginations soar as we planned out our very own fiction stories.

In social studies, we discussed what it means to be a smart consumer, learning how to make thoughtful choices. For OG, we focused on the “bossy r” rules, practicing how this special vowel-r combination changes the way words sound and are spelled.

Our students worked hard and showed great enthusiasm for all their learning adventures!

What a week we had in 2nd Grade!  So much was going on! We had a great time with all the Halloween activities, dressing up, and the costume parade to name a few!  We also had fun learning about adding two digit numbers, teaching our classmates how to solve problems, and love working with partners in reading discussions. Some of the kids said they wished they could dress up in their Halloween costumes every day!  They had so much fun!

Second graders have been having so much fun! Everyone had a great time at our Trick or Treat night, and we celebrated the 50th Day of School this week!

Second graders had another full week of learning. We have been working on Xtramath and flashcards to get better at our math facts! We love reading with our partners and would spend the whole day reading with them if they could. In social studies we are learning about Geography and learned a cool song about the seven continents!

October 18, 2024

Second graders got their own pumpkins to decorate and keep on their desks until Halloween!

2nd graders had a great time learning all about fire safety from our local firefighters and getting to explore the fire trucks! We all had a great fall break and it was so much fun to listen to the class talk about all the fun things they did during their week away from school. We got our library cards from the BC Library! I can’t wait to hear about all the books they check out.  We’ve been having great discussions in reading as we talk about our expository texts with one another. Mrs. Baughman conquered her fear of heights while in NYC and went to the top of the Empire State Building! I highly recommend everyone do this at least once!

Mrs. Baughman’s 2nd grade class has been learning about all different kinds of jobs and what people do in these jobs. We have been learning more about our RIASEC codes and the jobs we could do in relation to our codes. We love reading time and getting to share our books with a partner, talking with them about their books and learning from one another. In math we are learning all about solving story word problems in multiple ways. It has been challenging but students are working so hard and face those challenges head on each day!

What a great week in second grade!  We had some amazing dress-up days for College Go Week!  Look at these kids sporting their college wear and hats! So cute! We love working on our computers and have been learning more math skills on them. We started working on writing our stories on the computer this week.  It is so much fun learning how to type and learn all the different functions on the computer.

Second graders have been learning how to represent repeated addition equations with arrays. They loved doing an array hunt!

Mrs. Baughman’s class enjoyed hat day this week! It was so much fun to see what hat my students would wear each day.  We love computer time, working with partners in math, reading and exploring new things we are learning. Second grade is so much fun!  We are diving more into learning about and writing our realistic fiction stories. Writing is so much fun, they tell me!

Second graders have had a full week of fun and learning! We had fun dressing up for homecoming week. Look at those kiddos sporting Tropical Day and USA Day! We love learning about skip counting by 5s, 10s and 100s and finding out if a number is odd or even.  We got to listen to some great stories told by Mrs. Sechler – she tells the BEST stories!  We learned about arrays and repeated addition in math and created Array Cities.  Can you tell we love our computer time!

Second graders have been working hard on analyzing realistic fiction texts! It’s incredible to see them diving deeper into the characters and their problems!

Second graders have been on a mission to master place value up to 1,000! Each student received a three-digit number and unleashed their creativity by designing a unique monster that shows off their number’s hundreds, tens, and ones.

Second graders rocked picture day!

Second graders in Mrs. Baughman’s class had fun this week in math playing games as we worked on counting by 5s and 10s.  In social studies we finished our unit on communities and got to create our own house and community.  I am so proud of how creative these kids are! Look at us, we are ready for picture day!

Second graders are learning a lot this year while working on their computers. We learned about the TedEx club this week and what a great experience it is to be a part of. In our room we have such great friends and are having so much fun learning. 

Second graders have been working hard this week! They have been learning about place value to 1,000. They have also been working on their realistic fiction unit in reading and writing!

Second graders in Mrs. Baughman’s class have been working hard on learning about Place Value in math this week. We have had lots of fun with activities building this skill. One of Mrs. Baughman’s favorite basketball players showed up this week (Kobe and Curry are two of my favorites!) It’s  so much fun to find things in common with my students!

Mrs. Garman’s class adopted their new desk pets. We would like to welcome Cupcake, Scarlett 1, Scarlett 2, Mr. Bugman, Jimmy, Eric, Sharky, Rockstar, Drama Llama, Peely, Timothy, Zachy, Cocoa, Strawberry, Banana, Kiwi, Charlotte, and Snort to our 2nd grade class!

Mrs. Baughman’s second graders have had a great time this first week of school learning all about classroom expectations and how we do things in second grade. They have had so much fun in math playing games using different math skills and in reading getting to work with partners. We also had a chance to share our All About Me Posters with our classmates.

Mrs. Garman’s class made All About Me Lapbooks! They did an awesome job!
