Week of September 30, 2024

PreK

Preschoolers are loving fall activities! This week we washed and painted our own pumpkins!

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students in Ms LaGiglia’s class practiced their coloring, cutting and counting skills while learning the many ways to make 10’s.

This week we completed our first stem lesson! Our goal was to build a tower to keep the animals out of the lava! They did such a great job!

1st Grade

Miss Tina and our first-graders surprised Mrs. Peel with a party! So sweet! 🥹 💕

On top of that they learned about realistic fiction in reading and how a story could be made up but also possibly happened in real life. In math, they learned more about patterns to 120 and missing numbers in a sequence. They students also learned the rest of the Design Process for STEM and learned how to write our project evaluation based on what worked and what didn’t work making our own chair pockets.

The  class also earned a Good Behavior Party!  This is our Star Jar and they have it filled up because our class follows the rules! 🎉

2nd Grade

Second grade students earned their first Star Jar reward. They made a goal of earning desk pets, and they met it! They got to adopt a pet, choose food, and give it a comfortable place to live in our classroom! They had so much fun.

3rd Grade

Third graders learning multiplication strategies.  They were practicing writing multiplication equations by creating equal groups. The 3rd Graders even went on a field trip to the Blue Spring Cavern.

4th Grade

Fourth graders got into the spirit of Fall this week as they made prefix pumpkins and math squirrels. We also enjoyed the weather this week and dressing up like Mr. Pagnard for theme Friday.

5th Grade

Besides I-learn prep and testing, students have been working hard this week learning about the regions of the United States and memorizing the states and capitals in social studies.

A friendly classroom competition between the Grimes and Fields homeroom on who can say their states and  capitals the fastest! Fields homeroom is in first place with a time of 3 minutes and 13 seconds! Pretty impressive!

Howdy partners! ELA has been so rootin’ tootin’ fun we just couldn’t contain the excitement and had to mosey outdoors to read for a spell!

STEM

This week Kindergarten engineers began designing and building a bean stalk as part of our structure and function unit. We read Jack and the Beanstalk and took notice of the structure and function of the beanstalk. In real life, the beanstalk structure is different than in the book and the function is for holding beans. However, in our book, the function of the beanstalk was to hold weight, let jack climb, and the giant to climb down. As a STEM challenge, students were challenged with the task of building a beanstalk out of pipe cleaners that stands on its own, is strong, and holds weight. This is just what the beanstalk in the story needed to do.

In 4th grade this week, we began to learn about energy. We took part in energy stations where students discovered different types of energy in everyday things that we do. We had a bowling center, a light center, a marble and track center, and we started building a super car out of vex materials to test energy in the toy car. Students love learning about energy in these hands-on stations. This makes learning fun.

Cross Country

The Van Buren boys cross team won first place at the annual Brown County Elementary race!
