Week of February 3, 2025

PreK

Preschool worked on a building unit this week. We read “The Three Little Pigs” and “The Real Story (Wolf’s perspective). Students spent time discussing different building materials, building things in class, and doing some painting projects.

Kindergarten

The Kindergarten students learned all about the job of superintendent this week for our World of Work Wednesday lesson. They also learned about the opportunities students have to serve on committees and work as interns with the superintendent.

First Grade

1). Planned, created, tested, and improved models of a snow shovel in RIASEC groups for a STEM lesson.

2). Learned about comparing two 2-digit numbers using greater than, less than, and equal to for our terms.

3). Used maps to locate areas and relate them to our lives and our towns.

4). Wrote book reports during library time.

5). Created cards to show our school counselors we love them

Second Grade

We have been working hard to become excellent readers in second grade. In small groups we tap it, map it and graph it. This activity works on phonemic awareness, decoding, and using our orthographic mapping skills. Students love having a hands on way to map their sounds.

Third Grade

Mondays are Make it Mondays for our soft start in Third grade. These kiddos love designing with magnetic blocks.

Fourth Grade

Cool science experiments, equivalent fraction Kahoot, and passing our math facts are just a few things that happened in fourth grade this week.

Fifth Grade

Extra, extra read all about it! We’ve taken on the tough task of citing resources (primary and secondary) to support our precise language in our argumentative essays. Fifth grade students started with researching two countries, then placing that information into accordion foldables as a form of note taking. Next, we plan on analyzing student models to assist with the format of our writing.

STEM

Our 2nd graders learned so much this week about landslides. Students learned how real world solutions are created to help in natural disasters such as landslides. Our young engineers took part in designing, building, and testing a way to prevent landslides. Using a model hill and given supplies they were able to build and test their designs. Many of our students were able to be successful at stopping a landslide when flooding rains came to their model hills. It was a fun and successful week.

This week our 4th grade scientists jumped into learning about volcanoes. Students learned about volcanic patterns in where volcanoes are located, this pattern is called the Ring of Fire. Students discovered that dead volcanoes also exist all over the world. Students learned that there are two types of volcanoes, gently erupting and exploding. Students investigated two types of lava in their lava experiment to find out which type of lava causes an explosive volcano and which type causes a gently erupting volcano. Students loved the hands-on time with the model lava.
